Finnish aggregator eBrands Global acquires and scales consumer brands that mainly operate on Amazon and other online marketplaces. During this Autumn, eBrands acquired the trampoline scooter business of Indo Solutions from its founding brothers Vesa & Juha Poutiainen.
The price of the acquisitions has not been disclosed.
The trampoline scooter (or The Indo Trick Scooter), resembles a traditional scooter, but has no wheels and the deck is made out of flexible foam. Thus the scooter can be used safely on a trampoline but also on other flat surfaces.
“The board has no hard plastic and the foam is similar to the material found on Crocs, which is extremely durable”, says eBrands’ CEO and co-founder Robin Bade. The original idea for the product came from now 13 year-old son of Juha Poutiainen, Aleksi.”
Aleksi’s uncle, Vesa Poutiainen has a background as an industrial designer and took point on bringing Aleksi’s idea to life. With Vesa’s help a prototype came to be and gradually went to production in China.
The business founded in 2018 took flight during the pandemic as home improvement drove growth in the trampoline industry. Today, 160 000 units have been sold world wide.
This year Indo Solutions is looking at an annual turnover of six million euros compared to previous year’s three million. With the acquisition the business receives additional resources as the three-man-operation gets a growing organisation of 30 employees to support the expansion, Bade says.Â
“Our shared ambition is multiplying the business’ sales by focusing both on B2B and consumer markets”
One of the success factors of past growth has been social media, where Indo has a committed audience. “It has become a movement, and requests are coming from every corner of the world”.
A few counterfeits have derived from the Chinese’s market, but Indo has filed successful patent applications in the U.S., EU and China.
eBrands will focus on driving brand awareness and scalability of the business. Most specifically on D2C marketplaces such as Amazon and Walmart Online. The founding team of Indo Solutions will continue in the organisation developing new products to the portfolio.
While eBrands was founded in the beginning of 2021, the company has already made several acquisitions.
In addition to Indo Solutions, eBrands has acquired over 15 brands from Finland and other parts of the world.
In pro forma earnings, eBrands revenue will reach 15 million euro this year, as it includes the revenue of acquired business.
The idea behind eBrands is to acquire and develop new but already established online brands that mainly operate on Amazon markets. Acquisitions are focused on categories related to health and wellbeing.
“We have recruited talented people from the banking and finance sector as well as e-commerce experts.”
‍
Bade has previously worked in the marketing industry both in Finland and in the UK. While there are similar companies abroad, to his knowledge eBrands is one of a kind in Finland.
“It’s good to acknowledge that Amazon is a 400 billion marketplace. There is plenty of room for related business”
Bade is also interested in enhancing ESG initiatives in eBrands’ operations. In practice this means more responsible and sustainable choices in product materials, packaging and overall supply chain. In one case related to sunglasses, two covering plastics were removed from the packaging after acquisition.
“We are currently selling one product per minute. When you look at the numbers in terms of a calendar year, we can significantly remove wasteful materials from the marketplace.”
eBrands has held several financing rounds during the year and raised equity around 10 million euro from investors such as Icebreaker VC, its founders, employees and other individuals.Â
The goal for 2022 is to raise 30-50 million euro which would be used to acquire around 30 new brands.
