El Corte Ingles

Overview

El Corte Inglés is Spain's largest department store group and one of Europe's best-known retailers. Besides its department stores across Spain and Portugal, it runs a large online store at elcorteingles.es, which includes a curated marketplace where selected brands and sellers sell next to El Corte Inglés' own range. For a brand that wants to reach Spanish shoppers, El Corte Inglés is one of the most important channels after Amazon.

Who is behind El Corte Inglés

El Corte Inglés grew from a small tailor's shop in Madrid and was established as a company in 1935 by Ramón Areces. It is a private Spanish group that sells fashion, beauty, home, electronics, sports, food and much more, and also runs businesses such as travel agency Viajes El Corte Inglés. It is one of the most trusted retail brands in Spain.

The El Corte Inglés marketplace

El Corte Inglés opened its online store to external sellers with a marketplace built on Mirakl. It is known as one of the more demanding marketplaces in Europe when it comes to approving sellers, and it focuses on brands and products that fit its premium department store positioning. In Lengow's 2025 ranking of the top marketplaces in Spain, based on data from 300 merchants, El Corte Inglés came second after Amazon.

How selling on El Corte Inglés works

  • Application and approval. Sellers apply through the El Corte Inglés marketplace and go through a careful selection process.
  • Spanish content that meets El Corte Inglés' quality standards, mapped to its categories.
  • A Mirakl connection, directly or through a multichannel tool, for offers, stock and orders.
  • Fulfilment and service that match the expectations of a premium department store customer, including fast delivery and easy returns.
  • Commission per sale, agreed with El Corte Inglés.

Why El Corte Inglés matters for brands

El Corte Inglés combines a very strong brand with a large online audience in Spain. A presence there gives a brand credibility and reach that complements Amazon and other Spanish marketplaces such as Carrefour, MediaMarkt and PcComponentes.
