Overview
Galaxus is Switzerland's largest online store and, since its expansion into the EU, a growing marketplace in Germany, Austria and other European countries. Together with its sister shop Digitec for electronics, it sells more than 10 million products, from electronics and home to toys, sports, beauty and DIY. For a brand that wants to reach Swiss shoppers, or a fast-growing marketplace in German-speaking Europe, Galaxus is one of the key channels.
Who is behind Galaxus
Digitec Galaxus was founded in Switzerland in 2001 by Florian Teuteberg, Oliver Herren and Marcel Dobler, and launched Galaxus in 2012 when the Swiss retailer Migros invested in the company. Migros became majority owner in 2015. In 2025 Digitec Galaxus grew its platform sales by 17% to CHF 3.76 billion, its second-strongest growth ever, and 5 million people bought from Galaxus at least once during the year. The company also runs ten stores in Switzerland.
Galaxus in the EU
Galaxus expanded to Germany in 2018 and has since opened in Austria, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Belgium. Its EU platform sales reached EUR 418 million in 2025, up 15%. Galaxus has said it is focusing more on profitability in Germany and building up its own logistics there.
The Galaxus marketplace
Galaxus opened its seller programme in 2016 and has grown into a marketplace with millions of products from partner retailers and brands. Its range grew from 8 million products in 2024 to 10 million at the end of 2025, and the marketplace is a strong driver of growth. Galaxus is known for transparency: it shows shoppers information such as return rates and product data, and in 2026 it removed hundreds of thousands of older product reviews to stop brands and manufacturers from influencing ratings.
What a brand should know
- Switzerland is outside the EU, so selling to Swiss customers involves customs, Swiss VAT and often a Swiss logistics setup.
- Local-language content is needed in German, French and Italian for Switzerland, and in the language of each EU country.
- Detailed product data, since Galaxus emphasises transparent, comparable product information.
- Fulfilment and returns that meet Galaxus' delivery standards in each country.
Why Galaxus matters for brands
Galaxus is the first place many Swiss shoppers go online, and it is growing in Germany and the rest of the EU. It gives brands access to a high-spending Swiss audience and a fast-growing alternative to the largest marketplaces in German-speaking Europe.
