Overview

Houzz is a US online platform for home design and renovation. It combines a huge library of home design photos and ideas, a directory of professionals such as architects, designers and contractors, software for those professionals, and a marketplace for furniture, décor and home products. For a home or furniture brand, Houzz is a place where shoppers move from inspiration to purchase.

Who is behind Houzz

Houzz was founded in Palo Alto, California, in 2009. It is privately held and earns money from three sources: subscriptions to Houzz Pro, its software for home professionals; advertising from brands and professionals; and commissions on products sold through its marketplace. Houzz says millions of homeowners use the platform, together with millions of home professionals.

The Houzz marketplace

Houzz launched its marketplace in 2014. It offers products from many sellers across hundreds of home categories, including furniture, lighting, rugs, bath and outdoor living, and links products to the design photos where shoppers discover them. In September 2025 the marketplace got its own shopping site, ShopHouzz.com, separate from Houzz.com, which stays focused on ideas and professionals.

How selling on Houzz works

  • Application. Sellers contact Houzz's seller team to join the marketplace.
  • Commission. Houzz takes a commission on each sale. Reported rates have historically been around 15% to 20%, and terms are agreed with Houzz.
  • The seller ships products to customers in the US.
  • Strong imagery and product data, since Houzz shoppers are design-focused.
  • Advertising options to promote products and brands to Houzz's audience.

What a brand should think about

  • US logistics for furniture and bulky items.
  • Customer service and returns, which matter for the marketplace's reputation.
  • Fit with design-led home products.

Why Houzz matters for brands

Houzz reaches homeowners at the moment they plan a renovation or redesign, which makes it a valuable channel for design-led home brands in the US.
