Overview
Leen Bakker is a Dutch home and furniture retailer, selling affordable furniture, mattresses, home textiles, curtains and décor in stores across the Netherlands and online at leenbakker.nl. It has been through serious financial difficulties: its Belgian business went bankrupt in December 2025. For a home brand, Leen Bakker is mainly a Dutch channel today, and one to approach with care.
Who is behind Leen Bakker
Leen Bakker was part of Blokker Holding until it was sold to the investment firm Gilde Equity Management, which also owned the home retailer Kwantum. The two chains form Homefashion Group. In 2025 Leen Bakker's losses grew. In August 2025 its 44 Belgian stores, with 309 employees, received court protection from creditors, and in December 2025 a court in Antwerp declared Leen Bakker Belgium bankrupt. Some stores were taken over by other retailers such as JYSK, Swiss Sense and Dreamland, while the Belgian webshop stayed open. Reports in 2025 said Gilde no longer wanted to invest further in the chains, and that the Dutch business was also under pressure.
What the shopper sees
Leen Bakker targets budget-conscious households with affordable furniture and home products. It has tested a new store concept focused on inspiration, experience and service, first in Belgium and then in Dordrecht in the Netherlands.
How brands can work with Leen Bakker
Leen Bakker works with brands and suppliers as a retailer, alongside its own ranges. A brand considering Leen Bakker should be ready with:
- Affordable home products that fit a value-focused range.
- Dutch product content and labelling.
- A careful review of payment terms and risk, given the company's financial situation.
