Obelink is one of Europe's largest camping and outdoor retailers, with a huge megastore in Winterswijk in the Netherlands and webshops serving many European countries. Since 2022 it has also run a marketplace where selected partners sell products to Obelink's customers. Who is behind Obelink
Obelink was founded around 1960 by Jan Obelink, who opened his first shop for camping and outdoor products. It has grown into a megastore of about 72,000 square metres in Winterswijk, close to the German border, which attracts many Dutch and German customers. Obelink does not publish its revenue, but it has been estimated at around EUR 265 million in 2020, and its online business has grown strongly in recent years. It sells online in many countries, including Germany, Belgium and Italy.
The Obelink marketplace
Obelink opened its webshop to third-party suppliers from the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, becoming one of the first specialised camping and outdoor marketplaces in Europe. It started by focusing on Dutch and German consumers. Obelink says it is mainly looking for partners with distinctive products for the independent camper, and it values flexibility in delivery: Obelink itself can deliver a tent to the campsite where a customer is staying, and it expects similar flexibility from its partners. Obelink can also help partners with translations.
