Overview
Rue du Commerce is a French online marketplace with roots in computing and electronics, now relaunched as a general online shopping gallery. Owned by the French tech retailer LDLC since 2024, it has grown fast as a pure marketplace, where third-party sellers offer products across many categories. For a brand selling in France, Rue du Commerce is a growing alternative to the largest French marketplaces.
Who is behind Rue du Commerce
Rue du Commerce is one of France's earliest e-commerce sites and has had several owners, including Carrefour and the Shopinvest group. In July 2024 the LDLC group, a Lyon-based specialist in IT and high-tech retail, bought the Rue du Commerce brand and website for EUR 6 million. LDLC wanted a well-known, general brand to build a "shopping gallery" that its specialist LDLC sites could not offer, and to prevent another player from taking over this entry point to the French market. In its financial year to March 2026, LDLC's revenue grew 3.7% to EUR 554.1 million, and Rue du Commerce's business volume more than doubled, up 116% to more than EUR 32 million.
A marketplace model
Rue du Commerce now works as a marketplace. It earns commissions on sales by third-party sellers, which LDLC's management describes as pure margin that improves the group's profitability. LDLC is working to broaden the range of products in the gallery, which covers high-tech, home, appliances and many other categories.
How selling on Rue du Commerce works
- Professional sellers list products on Rue du Commerce and fulfil orders to French customers.
- Commission per sale, depending on the category.
- French content and product data that meet the marketplace's standards.
- French eco-fees and compliance for electrical products and other regulated categories.
- Integration through the seller portal or multichannel tools.
Why Rue du Commerce matters for brands
Rue du Commerce is a well-known French e-commerce name that is growing quickly under LDLC. With fewer sellers than the largest marketplaces, it can offer good visibility for brands in its categories. Following the closure of Rakuten France in 2026, French brands and sellers are also looking for new marketplace options.
