SPS Commerce

Overview

SPS Commerce is a US-based cloud network for retail supply chains. It connects retailers, brands, distributors, manufacturers and logistics providers so they can exchange orders, invoices, shipping notices and product data electronically, mostly using EDI (electronic data interchange). For a brand selling to large retailers, especially in North America, SPS Commerce is often the tool that makes it possible to meet each retailer's ordering and compliance requirements.

Who is behind SPS Commerce

SPS Commerce is headquartered in Minneapolis and listed on Nasdaq. In 2025 its revenue grew to USD 751.5 million, from USD 637.8 million in 2024, and the fourth quarter of 2025 was its 100th consecutive quarter of revenue growth. Around 96% of its revenue is recurring. SPS had about 54,600 recurring revenue customers at the end of 2025, and says seven of the ten largest US retailers use its network. It is led by CEO Chad Collins.

What SPS Commerce offers

  • Fulfillment. A full-service EDI solution that connects a supplier's ERP, accounting or warehouse system to its retail trading partners, and keeps up with each retailer's changing requirements.
  • Assortment. Tools to manage and share product data with retailers.
  • Analytics. Sales and inventory data to help suppliers and retailers plan.
  • A large network. Companies connect once and can trade with thousands of partners already on the network, with more than 300,000 trading relationships.

How brands use SPS Commerce

When a brand starts selling to a large retailer, such as a department store, big-box retailer or grocer, the retailer often requires orders and invoices to be exchanged through EDI and to follow specific rules. SPS Commerce manages these connections for the brand, so it can onboard new retail customers faster and avoid penalties for errors. Pricing depends on the number of trading partners, document volume, integrations and service level.

What a brand should think about

  • Retailer requirements. Check which EDI provider each retailer recommends or requires.
  • Integration with the brand's own ERP or warehouse system.
  • Costs, which grow with the number of retailers and transactions.

Why SPS Commerce matters for brands

For brands moving into large-scale retail, reliable EDI is essential. SPS Commerce makes it easier to work with many retailers without building and maintaining each connection.
