Overview
Studio is a UK online value retailer selling fashion, footwear, home, electricals, toys and gifts at studio.co.uk, with flexible payment options through its Studio Pay credit accounts. Since 2022 it has been owned by Frasers Group. For a brand targeting value-conscious UK families, Studio is a niche online channel within the Frasers Group.
Who is behind Studio
Studio was part of Studio Retail Group, formerly called Findel, based in Lancashire. It grew quickly during the pandemic: in 2020 it had about 2.1 to 2.3 million active customers. Frasers Group, run at the time by Mike Ashley, had built up a large stake in the business and urged a strategic review. In 2022 Studio Retail went into administration, and Frasers Group bought it for GBP 26.8 million, saving about 1,500 jobs. Frasers was particularly interested in Studio Pay, Studio's FCA-approved credit offer.
Studio under Frasers
Under Frasers, Studio returned to profit, with a pre-tax profit of GBP 12.1 million in the year to April 2023, although revenue including credit fell 20% to GBP 445.7 million. Frasers separated Studio's retail business from its credit business, which was renamed Frasers Group Financial Services and now provides credit products such as Studio Pay and Frasers Plus across Frasers Group's brands.
What the shopper sees
Studio sells a broad range of value-priced products, with a strong focus on gifts and seasonal shopping, and lets customers spread the cost of purchases with a Studio Pay account.
How brands can work with Studio
Studio works with brands as a retailer, buying products for its website. A brand considering Studio should be ready with:
- Value-priced products that fit Studio's family audience, such as home, gifts, toys or fashion.
- UK compliance for each category.
- Reliable supply, especially for peak gifting seasons.
Why Studio matters for brands
Studio reaches UK shoppers who value convenience and flexible payment, and it is part of the wider Frasers Group, which also owns Sports Direct, House of Fraser and other retailers.
