Overview

Tesco is the UK's largest grocery retailer, with thousands of stores and one of the country's biggest online grocery businesses. Since 2024 it has run Tesco Marketplace on tesco.com and in its app, where selected third-party sellers offer non-food products such as home, garden, toys, pet, baby, sports and electronics next to Tesco's own range. For a brand that wants to reach UK households, Tesco Marketplace is a newer, curated channel with a very large potential audience.

Who is behind Tesco

Tesco plc is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is the UK's market-leading grocer, with large online grocery and loyalty businesses, including its Clubcard programme, which reaches millions of UK households. Tesco also runs dunnhumby, a well-known customer data and retail media business.

Tesco Marketplace

Tesco first ran a marketplace years ago but closed it in 2018. It relaunched Tesco Marketplace in June 2024 on the Marketplacer platform, adding thousands of third-party products to tesco.com. In October 2025 Tesco announced that it would move the marketplace to Mirakl, the platform used by many UK retailers, including B&Q and Debenhams. This makes it easier for sellers already using Mirakl or multichannel tools to connect, although sellers on the original platform need to update their integrations. Marketplace products are delivered by the seller, separately from Tesco's grocery deliveries, and some are marked "online only".

How selling on Tesco works

  • Selected sellers. Tesco chooses the sellers and products on its marketplace.
  • Non-food focus, in categories that complement Tesco's own range.
  • The seller ships and handles customer service and returns to Tesco's standards.
  • UK compliance for each category.
  • Integration through Mirakl, directly or with a multichannel tool.

What a brand should think about

  • Discovery. Tesco's audience is strong in groceries, and sellers have noted that awareness of its non-food marketplace is still growing.
  • Competitive pricing for value-conscious shoppers.

Why Tesco matters for brands

Tesco reaches a huge share of UK households every week. As its marketplace grows on Mirakl, it could become an important additional UK channel for non-food brands.
