Overview
Vestiaire Collective is a global online marketplace for pre-owned designer and luxury fashion, with expert authentication of items. Private sellers and professional resellers sell clothing, bags, shoes, jewellery and accessories from luxury and designer brands to buyers in many countries. For a fashion brand, Vestiaire Collective is mainly a resale channel, and a partner for brands that want to run their own resale programmes.
Who is behind Vestiaire Collective
Vestiaire Collective launched in Paris in October 2009, starting under the name "Vestiaire de Copines", and took its current name in 2012. In March 2021 it raised EUR 178 million from the luxury group Kering and Tiger Global, which made it a French unicorn, and Kering is represented on its board. It has offices in cities such as Paris, London, New York, Milan and Berlin and runs authentication centres in Europe and the US. The United States has become one of its largest markets. E-commerce research firm ECDB estimates its 2025 gross merchandise value at about USD 525 million, all from third-party sellers.
What makes Vestiaire Collective different
- Authentication. Items can be checked by expert authenticators before they reach the buyer, which builds trust in a market where counterfeits are a major concern.
- Curation. Vestiaire Collective has banned dozens of fast-fashion brands from its platform and supported France's law against fast fashion.
- Brand partnerships. Through its "Resale as a Service" programme, brands such as Ganni work with Vestiaire Collective to offer resale to their own customers. It also partners with retailers such as Mytheresa.
How selling on Vestiaire Collective works
- Private sellers list items and pay commission when they sell.
- Professional sellers can join a programme with preferential commission rates.
- Shipping. When an item sells, Vestiaire Collective provides a prepaid shipping label, and the item may go through authentication before reaching the buyer.
- Commission. Vestiaire Collective earns a commission on each sale, which varies by price and seller type.
Why Vestiaire Collective matters for brands
Luxury resale is growing quickly. For premium fashion brands, Vestiaire Collective offers a way to take part in resale, keep customers in their ecosystem and support sustainability goals.
