Overview
XXXLutz is one of the three largest furniture retailers in the world, and its German online shop xxxlutz.de has been a curated marketplace for outside sellers since August 2023. The family-owned group from Austria runs more than 400 furniture stores in 14 European countries. For a brand in furniture, décor, garden or other home products, the marketplace is a way to sell under one of the best-known furniture names in the German-speaking market.
Who is behind XXXLutz
XXXLutz was founded in 1945 and is still a family business, headquartered in Wels, Austria. It started as a small furniture maker in Haag am Hausruck and has grown into a group with more than 27,300 employees and annual revenue of EUR 6.4 billion. Besides XXXLutz, the group runs the store brands mömax and Möbelix and operates 24 online shops across these three retail brands. In Germany, the group runs 57 XXXLutz furniture stores and 48 mömax stores, and the discount furniture chain POCO, with more than 125 stores in Germany, is also part of the group. XXXLutz has also agreed to acquire a majority of the Berlin-based online furniture retailer home24, which continues to operate as an independent company.
Stores and online together
XXXLutz sells through both stores and online shops. The group's spokesperson has described why: shoppers like to research furniture online, but for bigger purchases many still want advice from staff and to see and touch the product in a store. A product listed on xxxlutz.de appears in the online shop of a retailer that shoppers also know from its physical stores.
The XXXLutz marketplace
The marketplace launched in August 2023 on Mirakl and currently serves the German shop, xxxlutz.de. Expansion to other European countries has been described as planned, so brands interested in other country shops, such as Austria, should check the current status directly with XXXLutz. Integration partners quote traffic figures for xxxlutz.de between 7.5 and 14 million visitors per month, depending on the source and the date.
XXXLutz runs the marketplace with its own team inside its digital unit, XXXLdigital, which hires onboarding specialists to help new sellers go live and to maintain style guides and standards for merchants. Integration partners also mention direct contact persons for sellers, and marketing placements such as homepage banners, category highlights and seasonal campaigns.
Who can sell on XXXLutz
The XXXLutz marketplace is curated. XXXLutz chooses its merchants itself, and its terms state that no seller has a right to be admitted. Access is aimed at professional sellers in home and living, and brands contact XXXLutz directly to apply. A brand considering XXXLutz should be ready with the following:
- EAN codes for every product offered.
- Product data in XXXLutz's own categorisation, with detailed specifications, attributes and variants mapped to the marketplace.
- High-quality product images and clear logistics information for each item.
- German-language customer service.
- A free 30-day right of return for end customers. Returned products come back to the seller.
- Fast order handling. Orders arrive in Mirakl and must be accepted within 24 working hours, and shipping speed and refunds are measured against targets.
- Company verification. Payments run through Adyen, which checks the seller's company data during onboarding.
What it costs
XXXLutz does not publish its seller fees. According to integration partners, sellers pay a basic fee plus a commission that depends on the product category. The exact terms come with the seller agreement.
Connecting XXXLutz to your existing setup
Because the marketplace runs on Mirakl, several common multichannel tools already offer a connection, including Lengow, ChannelEngine, BaseLinker, PlentyONE and Tradebyte. Brands that already sell on other Mirakl marketplaces will recognise the order and offer workflows. Some connectors, such as Lengow, only add the channel once XXXLutz has approved the seller.
Why XXXLutz matters for home and living brands
Most large marketplaces mix every category. XXXLutz is built around furniture and the home, so shoppers on xxxlutz.de are already looking for something for their home. With a hand-picked seller base and a retail name that shoppers in Germany and Austria already know, it gives a home and living brand a credible place to be found.
