Overview
MediaMarkt and Saturn form Europe's largest consumer electronics retailer, with more than 1,000 stores in eleven countries and large online shops. Their marketplace now covers the countries that account for about 98% of the group's sales, with more than 2,600 sellers and around 4 million products. For an electronics, appliance, gaming or smart home brand, MediaMarkt is one of the most important channels in Europe.
Who is behind MediaMarkt and Saturn
MediaMarkt and Saturn belong to Ceconomy, headquartered in Düsseldorf, which employs about 50,000 people. In the first half of its 2025/26 financial year, sales grew 4.0% to EUR 13.1 billion, and online sales reached 28.5% of the total. Retail media income nearly doubled, and marketplace sales grew at double-digit rates. The Chinese e-commerce group JD.com made a takeover offer for Ceconomy and has secured a stake of more than 80%, with final regulatory approval expected in 2026. Saturn has shrunk to 27 stores in Germany, as many were converted to MediaMarkt, and Ceconomy plans to reposition Saturn as a brand for tech enthusiasts.
The MediaMarkt and Saturn marketplace
The marketplace is integrated into the MediaMarkt and Saturn websites in countries such as Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy (as MediaWorld), the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland and, since 2025, Switzerland. Products from partner sellers appear next to MediaMarkt's own range, with one checkout for customers. See also our MediaWorld page.
