Overview

Saturn is a German consumer electronics retailer and the sister brand of MediaMarkt. It sells TVs, computers, smartphones, gaming, audio, photo and home appliances in stores and online at saturn.de. Its store network has shrunk sharply, and its owner plans to reposition Saturn as a brand for technology enthusiasts. For an electronics brand, Saturn is part of the MediaMarktSaturn group, Europe's largest electronics retailer.

Who is behind Saturn

Saturn belongs to Ceconomy, the Düsseldorf-based group that also owns MediaMarkt. Ceconomy operates more than 1,000 stores in eleven countries and employs about 50,000 people. In the first half of its 2025/26 financial year, sales grew 4.0% to EUR 13.1 billion, and online sales reached 28.5% of the total. The Chinese e-commerce group JD.com has made a takeover offer for Ceconomy and has secured more than 80% of the shares, with full regulatory approval expected in 2026. A smaller, refocused Saturn

Saturn used to have around 150 stores in Germany, but now has only 27, as many were closed and reopened as MediaMarkt. Ceconomy said this raised sales by about 10% in the converted stores, since customers no longer distinguish much between the two brands. Saturn only exists in Germany today. From 2027 Ceconomy plans Saturn showrooms inside MediaMarkt stores and at selected locations, positioning Saturn as a sub-brand for tech enthusiasts, focused on trends and high-quality products with exclusive access.

Online and marketplace

Saturn's website shares the MediaMarktSaturn marketplace, which has more than 2,600 sellers and around 4 million products across the group, and whose sales grew at double-digit rates. Partner sellers can reach Saturn's online customers next to the retailer's own range.

How brands can work with Saturn

  • As a supplier to MediaMarktSaturn, which buys products for its stores and websites.
  • As a marketplace seller, offering products to MediaMarkt and Saturn online customers.
  • Through retail media, which nearly doubled its income in the first half of 2025/26.

A brand considering Saturn should be ready with German product content, detailed technical data and EU compliance for electronics, such as CE marking, WEEE and energy labels.

Why Saturn matters for brands

Saturn's new focus on technology enthusiasts may make it a showcase for premium and innovative tech products, while the wider MediaMarktSaturn group provides scale across Europe.
